Our month at Irie house was AWESOME! We never planned on staying a month in Cocles, but living next to Dawn & Drew made the idea extra appealing. Our month was filled with chilling in the rancho, which is the perfect spot for watching the wild life that surrounds you (because you are IN THE JUNGLE!) as well as the resident dogs that are entertainment onto themselves, daily trips to the beach, bike rides to more beaches, kayak and snorkeling adventures, jaunts into town, and many many tacos.

Hanging out with Dawn & Drew was a lot of fun and quite entertaining – they are filled with information about the area and always offer to help out in whatever way they can.

Playing frisbee in the rain, at the beach, in the waves with Drew was one of our favorite activities, as well as hanging out at the local spots like Tasty Waves, to chow down on wings while watching surf flicks and feasting on Om pita sandwiches and fruit drinks – both places a 2 minute walk from Irie house. And of course whenever you need a moment of A/C, a piece of yummy local chocolate or a good book Echo books in right there!

We had a great stay in Cocles and would recommend Irie house to anyone who needs/wants to just get away to the jungle for a bit.

Cheers,

My stay with Dawn & Drew in Costa Rica was, easily, one of the best weeks of my life! You’re in PARADISE, surrounded by tons of natural beauty and wonderful people. Not to mention, getting the opportunity to spend a week with D&D is worth the price of admission alone.

They’re two of the nicest, funniest, and most positive people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. Definitely recommended to anyone/everyone.

Costa Rica with D&D(&P) was great! Beaches & monkeys. And surfing with Drew was the best thing since losing my virginity!

We'll be back!

That was one of the greatest weeks of our lives. Dawn & Drew reside in paradise — it’s like you truly are “at the end of the road.” It’s almost magical. And the stay couldn’t have been more comfortable. Want to sleep with the windows open and hear howler monkeys in the morning? Do it. You want to sleep in (like Dawn), do it. You want to wake up at the crack of dawn (not that crack) and walk down to a deserted and pristine beach (with Drew and the dogs), do it. When’s the last time you road a bicycle into town? You can do it.

Visiting Dawn and Drew in Costa Rica was the most stress free vacation I have ever had! All I had to do was book the flight and everything else was taken care of. They knew all the best places to eat and play so I didn’t have to worry about anything. Dawn and Drew were so great to hang out with that I felt like I was with old friends. I can’t wait to go back!

Happiness

Happiness

Happiness is… Costa Rica with D&D! Although it was a short visit, Dawn and Drew made sure that the most was made out of my trip. Traveling to Puerto Viejo was a cinch! There are great and cheap hostels in San Jose (hostel bekuo is the one I stayed in) if you need to overnight it’s run by 20 somethings from all over the world who actually live there so it’s clean and hip and they offer complimentary breakfast which includes pancakes, fresh luscious pineapple and strong coffee. I paid $12 for one night, it’s safe and close to bars and restaurants. I went to THE BEST Reggae bar in San Jose that was a five minute walk from the hostel. The bus ride to the coast travels through an awe inspiring cloud forest where you see waterfalls along the road and you witness the day to day life of the locals. A typical day with Dawn and Drew would start out at about 6am with a jaunt during sunrise at the beach in the warm waters of the Caribbean, breakfast ala Drew of fresh Costa Rican fare such as fried plantains and other local fruits, then off to an adventure! We went zip lining through the Costa Rican jungle where we saw wild sloths hanging out in the canopies, and ATVing to a remote beautiful waterfall and then to an indigenous tribe for some handmade local chocolates and tour of their village. The locals are so welcoming and nice and try their best to accommodate their awestruck tourists. The food was always tasty and the drinks were always cheap. You must try the local beer and Drew’s favorite Cuba Libre. I highly recommend hanging with D&D on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica for vacation. I’m working my way on to actually moving there in the near future solely based upon this trip. You will be missing out if you do not take advantage of this great opportunity to see the rain forest as you’ve never seen it before.
